Foreign Fields is busy as ever, both personally and creatively.  Come early May, we'll begin remixing old music and recording brand new material in a new and seriously improved studio space.  There are also prospects for live shows in the spring and summer, but nothing has been definitized yet.

Since some things are works in progress, I've kept a blog about our progress on our most recent rough mixes/recordings.  To hear some brand new Foreign Fields rough tracks not posted on this site, head on over to my personal blog to hear two new jams, Charles River and The Complaint DepartmentThe last four recent blog posts are all about Foreign Fields: http://www.evansetzer.com

Cheers!

The Atlantic has a great article on the development of distortion in popular music, from its origins in a Marty Robbins country classic to its evolution in rhythm & blues and early rock and roll. Being the product of a faulty connection, "fuzz" was later the result of simple overdrive through increased volume.

But there were other reasons for the sound that began to permeate different genres of music. For instance, damage done to a speaker used by guitarist Willie Kizart that "either fell off a car's roof or got left out in the rain, depending on who's telling the story." These diverse sounds eventually led to the creation of the artificial distortion effects that are widely popular today.

So check out "50 Years of Making Fuzz." It's worth moseying on over and giving it a read.

After a brief meeting of the minds in Richmond recently, it's been decided that there's much to do and little time in which to do it. However, for your listening pleasure, we have provided a new jam for you to feast your ears on in the meantime. It's called "Walk On By."

Walk On By is a pop culture gem originally written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and performed by Dionne Warwick. It's been famously covered by the likes of Isaac Hayes and The Stranglers, so this particular tune has quite the legacy. We, on the other hand, opted to give it a twist. Wander on over to the music page and give it a listen, you'll see what I mean.
